Best Lunch Value in Town?

by Patricia Eddy on August 1, 2011

Continuing our theme of saving money, today I want to tell you about possibly one of the best lunch values in town. While my parents were in town, we headed into downtown Seattle to do some window shopping (plus Mom needed shoes). John and I had been meaning to try out Blueacre Seafood for a happy hour, but once Wingnut got sick, we had very little time for going out. However, since we were only a few blocks away, and my parents don’t get seafood as fresh as we do very often, we decided to go.

Blueacre isn’t a cheap restaurant. Their main course lunch offerings range from $14-$19 each. Portions are very large for those prices, but even though you’ll likely end up with two meals for that price, it still results in a not-insignificant lunch bill. However, if you look at the bottom corner of their lunch menu, you’ll see an interesting promotion. Their Dine Around Seattle special is 3 courses for $15. Dine Around Seattle is a bi-annual promotion that’s available in March and November. However, Blueacre is offering this special outside of the standard promotional months. (Note: They also offer a 3 for $30 dinner promotion called the Love Boat).

For this promotion you can choose an appetizer, a main dish, and a dessert. That’s not what is notable about the promotion. Most of us in Seattle have probably hit up a Dine Around Seattle promotion before. What’s notable about Blueacre’s 3 for $15 lunch special is that the portions are HUGE! The appetizer plates alone were nearly a full meal. The salmon and the halibut were cooked to perfection and there was a delightful heat to both the appetizer and the main course (if you dislike spicy food, be sure to tell your server when ordering – many of the dishes are on the wild side when it comes to the spice level). My parents raved about the meal for several days.

So if you’re downtown during the week and want a delicious, satisfying, and inexpensive lunch, give Blueacre a try. I know in a few months, we’ll be sure to return for dinner.

What are some of your favorite lunches that feel like splurges but won’t break the bank?
