Happy 4th of July! Cook Local is going to be celebrating by making potato salad and grilling up some salmon and sausages. We’ve got a bottle of local wine, a couple of local beers, and will finish the evening off with some local cherries. We’ll have all of the typical 4th of July foods, but they will all be from the farmers markets.
To start our 4th of July off right, we headed to the University District Farmers Market. Here are a few of today’s finds.
It is the beginnings of another hot day in Seattle, and even though it is a holiday the market is hopping.
Skagit River Ranch isn’t here today for the holiday, but Olsen Farms, Sea Breeze Farm, and Wolly Pigs have your sausage needs covered.
Tonnemakers is back with their cherries and for you Sonata lovers, they are BACK. I wouldn’t count on them being here for long though. They are $3.50 per pound. Bings can be had for as low as $2.99 per pound.
Billy’s has purple peppers for $4.49 per pound and red bells for $5.49 per pound.
Olsen won’t have any potatoes for a few more weeks but their beef is in full supply. Stop by and say hi to Brent and pick up something for the grill.
As far as berries go, the strawberries are waning a little but the raspberries and blueberries are in full swing. There are even gooseberries today.
Port Madison has two cheeses that you should definitlely try. Their party cheese is soaked in garlic and a bit of olive oil and they have a new red pepper cheese that promises to pack a kick! I’ve had the party cheese and it is wonderful. They even had fresh mozzarella!
Despite the holiday, the market is hopping so get down and get shopping.

Hello and thanks for sharing your story. Was the fresh mozzarella cheese already stretched, or did you purchase fresh mozzarella cheese curd? I like stretching my own mozzarella cheese when I can. Great pictures by the way.
