Cook Local Acquires Seasonal Cornucopia

We are pleased to announce that as on November 10, 2009, Cook Local acquired Seasonal Cornucopia.

Seasonal Cornucopia is a database of local foods in the Puget Sound region. Users of Seasonal Cornucopia can do the following:

  • Search for all items in season now.
  • Search for a particular ingredient (fruit, vegetable, mushroom, nut, or seafood item) and find when it is in season.
  • Search for all items that are in season over a given date range.

For all of these searches, Cook Local has expanded Seasonal Cornucopia to provide links to recipes for the ingredient. So not only can you find out when kale is in season, you’ll be directly linked to all of Cook Local’s recipes for kale. It is our hope that we will eventually be able to expand Seasonal Cornucopia to provide not only seasonal availability information, but also farm and farmers market information as well.

Although Seasonal Cornucopia’s database is exhaustive, we at Cook Local haven’t managed to cook with all of Seasonal Cornucopia’s ingredients quite yet. If you search for a recipe for an ingredient we haven’t cooked with yet, rest assured we’ll have a recipe for you just as soon as the ingredient comes into season again.

Founder Becky Selengut, owner of Cornucopia Cuisine, will retain a vested interest in Seasonal Cornucopia and we here at Cook Local owe her a huge debt of gratitude for this amazing opportunity. Becky truly rocks. You can still find her at Cornucopia Cuisine and of course, on Twitter.
